Fall Ingress 2008 at Westport, CT

NCGR 2008 LECTURE/WORKSHOP SEASON

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2008 LECTURE
ASTROLOGER: GLORIA STAR
TOPIC: SIGNATURES OF OUR TIMES: UNDERSTANDING THE BIG PICTURE

As astrologers, we have an exceptional guidepost that lends itself to a special perspective on collective change and evolution. By late 2008, Saturn moves into a long-lasting series of oppositions to Uranus. This picture is complicated by an emerging square between Uranus and Pluto, with such major cycles suggesting major transitions in our lives. And of course, there are significant eclipses to analyze. We’ll look at our current time, future trends, and keep a clear eye on what history has shown. From the mundane to the personal – let’s explore the story!

A professional astrologer, author and teacher, the work of Gloria Star encompasses a wide range of experience. Her client practice is her primary focus, and she has presented over 2500 lectures and workshops for astrology groups worldwide. She’s written, edited or contributed to 29 astrological books, annuals and anthologies, and has authored many columns for magazines, newspapers, journals and online sources, and has conceptualized and written the text for four astrological computer report software programs. Her feature column “Astrology News” has appeared in The Mountain Astrologer since 1997.

Gloria currently serves on the NCGR Board as Chair of the Advisory Council,
and is on the Advisory Boards of Kepler College, Avalon School, and AFAN.
She served on the UAC Board from 1999-2001, and was on the team of
Coordinators for UAC ’95, ’98 and ‘02.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2008 WORKSHOP
ASTROLOGER:  HELMUT LICHT
TOPIC: THE VERTICAL ZODIAC AND THE DECANATE CHART

Back by popular demand, Helmut will again present the Vertical Zodiac, but will focus on the Decanate Chart. His hands-on workshop begins with a quick recap of the Vertical Chart, and then the focus shifts to the creation of the Decanate Chart.

A decanate spans 10 degrees of a sign, thus, every sign has 3 decanates, constituting a total of 36 decanates. The idea of decanates has been around for centuries, even millennia. Ptolemy lists 48 constellations in his book Almagest, written circa 150 A.D. Take away twelve constellations associated with our twelve signs, and there remain 36 constellations, one for each of the 36 decanates. However, very little use has been made of this concept, except by the Brotherhood of Light (now Church of Light), in their course VII (Spiritual Astrology), which delves into this subject in more detail, relating each decanate to a beautiful, illustrative story. Helmut will show you how to create a Decanate Chart, and demonstrate how transits and major progressions advance within that chart at three times their normal speed, either direct or retrograde, and how they at times skip 3, or even 4 signs. You will be amazed to discover how your Decanate Chart reveals a side of you that is not shown by your standard chart.

Helmut Licht is certified by the Mayo School of Astrology, London, England. He has also passed the exams for the 21 Brotherhood of Light courses (http://www.light.org/lessons.php3), becoming a Brotherhood of Light Hermetician. For several years in the early 80s, Helmut taught courses in Astrology at Baltimore’s Astrological Hub, the Avant Garde Bookstore and Learning Center. During that time, he also passed the Professional Exam of the American Federation of Astrologers (AFA).

Helmut has taught informal courses in astrology at Catonsville Community College and Towson University. He continues to be actively involved as education chairman with the Baltimore Chapter of the NCGR.

Early on, Helmut studied at Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory of Music, majoring in composition. To earn his tuition, he taught dance at the Arthur Murray School of Dancing, where he was awarded the Arthur Murray professional Gold Medal. He received his BA from the Maryland Institute of Art and his MA from Towson University. He taught for many years at Morgan State University and Towson University. When he’s not immersed in astrology, he’s playing music, either solo or accompanied by his 14-piece Ballroom Big Band, for which he writes and arranges most of the music. Helmut’s website is www.ballroommusic.com.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2008 LECTURE
ASTROLOGER: SHELLEY ACKERMAN
TOPIC: BEYOND ELECTION ’08: WHAT’S NEXT?

By the time we next meet, we’ll know who the 44th President of the United States will be, won’t we? In this entertaining astrological post mortem, we will review the charts of the candidates, the moment of acceptance for each, the chart of the VP, the various charts for Election Day, and learn just how the Saturn-Uranus opposition, and the Moon and Mercury sign change on Tuesday Nov 4, ultimately played out. We will also focus on Inauguration Day, and the eclipse that follows later that week, as well as many other relevant charts for 2009, and beyond.

Astrologer, actress, artist, broadcaster, and columnist, Shelley Ackerman began her professional life as a singer-comedienne at New York’s famed comedy clubs, The Improvisation, and Catch a Rising Star. She took the name of the club literally, solicited accurate birth data from her fellow performers, and studied their horoscopes. Before she knew it, she had accidentally become an astrologer. Shelley attracted the attention of the astrological community in 1992 when she obtained the then candidate Bill Clinton’s birth time from his mother, Virginia Kelley. Since then, her focus has been on political, cultural, creative and humanistic astrology. By 1996, she headed the NY affiliate of The American Federation of Astrologers. Since the mid 1990s, Shelley has taught and lectured all over the world. She’s been featured on thousands of radio (The Gayle King Show-Oprah & Friends on XM, Sirius, WOR 710AM in NY, The Alan Colmes Show, The Satellite Sisters) and television shows, most recently on NBC’s Weekend Today Show, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD, My Celebrity Home (Style Network), ABC’s World News Now, ABC Eyewitness News, The CBS Evening News, NBC’s ‘Extra’, Fox and Friends, and The O’Reilly Factor. She teaches annually at Skidmore College at The International Women’s Writing Guild Conference, and writes regularly for The NY Post and The Westchester Guardian. She toured the USA in 2005 with Court TV, and was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal. Her Beliefnet.com Summer Solstice 2005 piece was excerpted in the Sunday New York Times. In May 2008, Shelley was instrumental in obtaining (and prominently featured in) world wide media coverage for UAC in Denver. In addition to her many writing assignments, lectures, and private practice, Shelley is working on two books. She can be reached at 212-539-3100 and her website is www.karmicrelief.com.
