The pace of life is accelerating and many aspects of our existence are becoming more challenging. Planetary combinations are forming that do not occur often in human history, let alone in a lifetime. The economic crisis, large scale social transformations, and climatic shifts are testing us on many levels. We will focus on the next few years -- what to expect and how best to respond. Gary will use techniques from Symmetrical Astrology to present a modern perspective on current and coming conditions.
Gary Christen is a well-known practitioner of Uranian Astrology, upon which he based the development of a modern system known as Symmetrical Astrology. An astrologer since his teens, he is the first person in modern times to have been awarded an accredited B.A. degree in Astrology (Livingston College, Rutgers University, 1974). An international lecturer, Gary has been teaching since the early seventies. A professional astrologer since 1969, Gary co-founded Astrolabe, Inc., assisting in the creation of many Astrolabe products. He is currently perfecting the Nova Chart Wheels program, and teaching Symmetrical Astrology, both of which he considers to be representative of the future of astrology. Gary enjoys teaching new ways of looking and thinking about astrology without limiting himself to the confines of any specific school of thought.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2009 LECTURE-STUDY GROUP
ASTROLOGER: SHARON McNEAL
TOPIC: PLUTO IS IN CAPRICORN, PART 2
Around 2020, the United States will have a Pluto return at 27 Capricorn in the US chart. It’s the house of material resources and, not surprisingly, it is also the year for many predictions of very severe water shortages in the Western US.
Irrigation is critical to US agriculture. We only irrigate 16% of harvested cropland, but this acreage generates nearly half of the value of all crops sold. Agriculture accounts for over 80% of the water consumed in the US. Western states irrigate 30% of their cropland.
Irrigation is related to farm size and farm size is related to population.
Today water is a battle between the farmers and the cities, or between green lawns and underground aquifers. A fight for water is a fight for life in the West. Water has spawned massive political corruption with a battlefield that extends from California to Washington, DC. Water is the political hot-button that gave Ronald Reagan the West -- Carter told the West that water was not important. The truth is that the water issue fuels the duel over money and influence between two titans: The Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation. We will look at the water wars in the western US using the Sibley chart, as well as the charts of key states and events leading to our Pluto return in 2022.
Sharon McNeal began practicing astrology as a teen-ager. Like most astrologers, she studied without the benefit of a teacher for many years. Later, NCGR helped fill the gaps through instructional meetings and lively discussions. She maintains a casual astrology practice and has taught astrology in local adult education programs. She is currently studying the Morin method under Robert Corre. Sharon owns Biz 4 the Rest of Us, a financial consulting company for small businesses. Her academic background is in mathematics and the sciences, and she had a corporate career as an architect for large life-critical energy and defense systems.
